2024 at the Domain Simon Colin

Domaine Simon Colin's vision for the 2023 vintage

The 2024 vintage: a climatic challenge yielding wines of great intensity

The 2024 vintage at Domaine Simon Colin ranks among the most complex in recent years in Burgundy. Characterised by particularly capricious weather, it demanded extreme rigour both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Despite yields being severely affected, it has produced wines of great precision, which are fresh, dense and expressive.

A 2024 vintage marked by severe climatic pressure

The year 2024 was dominated by exceptional rainfall, with an average of nearly one day of rain in every three. These conditions encouraged the development of diseases, particularly mildew, which had a severe impact on the vineyard.

Domaine Simon Colin thus recorded an average harvest loss of 40%, with marked variation depending on the grape variety: around 30% loss for Chardonnay and up to 60% loss for Pinot Noir.

These extreme conditions also made soil cultivation and tractor access more difficult, making certain operations impossible to carry out at the optimal time.

Precision viticulture in the face of constraints

Faced with these challenges, Simon Colin had to constantly adapt his cultivation strategy. The number of treatments was increased, with 15 operations carried out compared to the usual ten or so, in order to keep disease pressure under control.

Severe leaf removal was carried out to improve air circulation and thus reduce humidity around the bunches. This also helped to optimise the effectiveness of the organic treatments.

This vintage also marks a major milestone for the estate: the attainment of organic farming certification, the result of three years of commitment and rigorous work.

A late but promising harvest

The harvest began on 13 September 2024, under finally favourable weather conditions. Despite low yields, the harvested grapes stood out for their excellent health and high quality.

In the cellar, the philosophy remains true to the estate’s identity: natural fermentation without exogenous yeasts and controlled ageing with around 20% new oak. No significant issues arose during ageing.

Profile of the 2024 vintage wines

According to Simon Colin, the 2024 vintage is stylistically similar to 2021, whilst offering greater body and depth.

The wines display lovely freshness and a marked tension, with a beautiful aromatic liveliness. They possess a density and richness far superior to 2021, whilst maintaining a fine balance.

A rare and sought-after vintage

With historically low yields and exceptional quality, the 2024 vintage from Domaine Simon Colin promises to be exclusive and highly sought-after. It will appeal to connoisseurs of fine Burgundy wines seeking purity, energy and authenticity.

A vintner’s vintage, forged in adversity, which demonstrates all the expertise and resilience of Domaine Simon Colin.
