2023 at the Pierre Girardin estate
Domaine Pierre Girardin's vision for the 2023 vintage
The 2023 vintage from Domaine Pierre Girardin is a testimony to a season rich in contrasts and emotions, reflecting all the passion and expertise of the winemaker. As early as winter, the estate began its preparations with the meticulous dismantling of the vines, ensuring optimum health for the vines. Spring was early and vigorous, with early flowering and good growth, despite a scare caused by a frost spell on 15 April. Fortunately, temperatures were close to freezing but never plunged into the minus, preserving the buds.
The year continued with generally favourable weather conditions: welcome rainfall in early March allowed the vines to replenish their water reserves, and generous sunshine ensured rapid growth. A slight hail storm in July affected a few plots, but the damage was quickly repaired as the vines healed effectively under the excellent weather conditions.

The harvest, which began on 23 August - one of the first on the Côte - was carried out in the morning to preserve the freshness of the grapes, which were harvested in impeccably healthy condition thanks to strict disbudding which limited the number of buds to 6 per vine. Vinification went smoothly, resulting in wines with perfect alcohol levels of around 12.5%.
For Pierre Vincent, the 2023 vintage offers reds reminiscent of 2021, but with a more assertive structure and enriched aromatic depth, while the whites, close to the 2022 vintage, stand out for their improved acid balance and lower pHs, the result of viticulture finely adapted to the hot conditions. This vintage, a reflection of the estate's rigour and expertise, promises cuvées that are both accessible in their youth and excellent for laying down, revealing the authentic soul of Burgundy terroirs.
