2024 at the Domain Coffinet-Duvernay

Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay's vision for the 2024 vintage

Difficult weather conditions

The year 2024 will be remembered for its unpredictable and particularly wet climate in Burgundy. The constant rain throughout the season greatly increased the risk of mildew, causing nearly 50% crop loss at the Coffinet-Duvernay estate.

The village appellations suffered with yields of between 15 and 25 hl/ha (compared to the authorised 57), while the premier crus, located on stony, well-drained soils, fared better with 30 to 35 hl/ha (compared to the authorised 55).

A strong commitment to organic viticulture

Despite the difficulties of the vintage, Bastien Coffinet chose to continue with organic treatments, in keeping with the estate's philosophy. The estate has now been working exclusively organically for six years, without seeking official certification, but with a deep respect for biodiversity and the natural balance of the vineyard.

The excess water made access to the plots difficult: the soggy soil often prevented tractors from passing through to carry out treatments. Bastien therefore decided to leave the grass in the vineyards to absorb some of the moisture, even if this meant creating slight competition with the vines.

A selective and promising harvest

The harvest began on 15 September, under beautiful sunshine, in an atmosphere that was finally more clement. Careful sorting was carried out in the vineyard to eliminate any bunches affected by disease.

The harvested grapes were in excellent condition, providing high-quality raw material for vinification. The settling process was more rigorous than usual, with less lees retained, in order to preserve the aromatic purity of the vintage.

A balanced, concentrated and expressive vintage

The 2024 vintage wines from the Coffinet-Duvernay estate are distinguished by their beautiful natural acidity and great concentration, a direct result of low yields.

According to Bastien Coffinet, this vintage evokes the balance of 2021, but with greater richness, expression and aromatic complexity. Each cuvée brilliantly reveals the typical characteristics of its terroir, enhancing the minerality of Chassagne-Montrachet.

An authentic Burgundy vintage

Despite a particularly challenging year, the 2024 vintage looks set to be magnificent at the Coffinet-Duvernay estate. Thanks to rigorous work and a respectful approach to nature, Bastien has produced deep, precise and vibrant wines that perfectly embody the soul of the Côte de Beaune.

A rare vintage, balanced, vibrant and deeply sincere, which will appeal to lovers of great Burgundy whites.
