2021 at the Pierrick Bouley estate

Domaine Pierrick Bouley's vision for the 2021 vintage

2021 was a complicated vintage that required a lot of hard work. The year began with concerns about late frost, resulting in a small loss of harvest (between 10 and 15%). As the vines grew, there was also a lot of rain, leading to attacks of mildew fairly early in the year. This meant that treatments had to be applied regularly. The season ended with some very hot and dry spells, but fortunately the vines had enough water to bring the grapes to maturity.

Despite a trying season, the grapes that went into the cellar during the harvest were lovely.

In terms of wine, the 2021 vintage is a return to classic Burgundy. The wines are bursting with fresh, fruity aromas. The wines are very elegant with great finesse. This combination is ideal for early-ripening terroirs.

The wines are much easier to drink young than the 2020s. The downside of this great freshness is that this is not a vintage for ageing red wines (except for the terroirs for ageing). But there's no need to panic: you can keep Pierrick Bouley's 2021s for ten years or more without any problem.
