2021 at the Thomas Collardot estate

Domaine Thomas Collardot's vision for the 2021 vintage

2021 was a complicated vintage, as it was for all Burgundy winegrowers. Production losses are estimated at 50% on the Thomas Collardot estate, following a late frost that burned a large part of the vine flowers. The estate also had to cope with very high disease pressure, such as powdery mildew and downy mildew, following a very long period of rain.

The harvest was later than in previous years, and took place in the cool of September. These climatic conditions enabled the grapes to ripen slowly and be harvested fresh. A thorough sorting was carried out by the pickers in the vines to select only the good bunches and discard those that were diseased or under-ripe. Fortunately, the low quantity of grapes per vine resulted in good concentration and high quality wines, especially for the whites.

For Jacqueline and Matthieu, this is a typically Burgundian vintage, forgetting sunny years like 2019 and 2020, which produced powerful wines with exotic fruit aromas. 2021 is all about finesse and elegance! The estate's white wines have magnificent freshness and concentration. The wines are full-bodied and well-structured. On the palate, there's a lovely, long, acidic tension that's perfectly balanced with the wine's freshness. This is a great vintage for the domaine's white wines, and deserves to be sublimated by ageing well in your cellar!

If you decide to drink Domaine Thomas Collardot's 2021s young, the villages and 1st growths may be slightly closed and shy on opening. We recommend decanting them to allow them to express their full potential.
