2022 at the Domain Coffinet-Duvernay

Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay's vision for the 2022 vintage

The 2022 vintage from Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay stands out for its unique character and remarkable balance, perfectly embodying the elegance of Chassagne-Montrachet wines. The year began with a mild, dry winter, providing an ideal start for the vines. From mid-April, a sunny spring and mild temperatures allowed the vines to grow at their best, eliminating any risk of late frost. Early flowering brought the vines forward by an average of two weeks, auguring a promising vintage.

Despite intense heat in the spring and the onset of drought in the summer, rain fell at just the right time to ensure good growth.

Harvesting began on 26 August with the ‘Les Dents de chiens’ plot, followed by a two-day break before picking the whole of the domain.  The weather conditions were ideal and the bunches harvested were in impeccable condition, with a perfect balance between acidity and ripeness.

This 2022 vintage posed a challenge for Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay, requiring increased vigilance over the date of harvest and vinification in order to preserve the acidity essential to the balance of the wines. Bastien chose to retain all the lees during vinification, adding extra complexity to his cuvées. In his opinion, the 2022 vintage is reminiscent of the 2019 and 2020 vintages in its warmth, while remaining less sun-drenched, without the over-ripeness that brings aromas of exotic fruit or caramel.

The 2022 wines stand out for their exceptional freshness and balance on the acids, offering a harmonious and refined tasting experience. This vintage embodies the excellence of Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay's expertise and is already shaping up to be a benchmark for lovers of great Burgundies.
