Petrus

If there is a wine that embodies the excellence of the Pomerol appellation around the world, Pétrus is it. Named in reference to the apostle Peter or to the locality on which it took root (the versions differ), the estate was administered for a long time by the Arnaud family, who acquired it in 1770. Passed into the hands of Mr. Sabin-Douarre at the start of the 20th century, the estate was partially bought by Mme Loubat in 1925, then completely in 1945. It was under her management and thanks to the advice of the merchant Jean-Pierre Moueix that the Pétrus myth, finally quite recent , takes shape. Owned by the Moueix family (Jean-François branch), the most legendary wine in the world has not finished fascinating those lucky enough to taste it. Made from 100% Merlot planted on deep clay soils, Pétrus benefits from a unique terroir for Pomerol. Admittedly, all the vintages produced during the 1980s or 1990s may not live up to the expectations that such a vintage may arouse. But the aging of the vineyard and the attention paid in recent years to the wine have made it possible to produce some legendary bottles, as will undoubtedly be the 2000, 2005, 2009 and 2010 and ... practically all the latest vintages. Olivier Berrouet, who is responsible for the vinification, has taken the measure of the terroir perfectly, and the new vat room, allowing the precision of the vinification to be refined, constitutes for him a magnificent working tool. Benefiting from its own distribution structure, Pétrus is in better shape than ever.
