Domaine Marchesi Antinori

Far from the many rustic - and nevertheless qualitative - productions with which Italy abounds, Tignanello is the archetype of the great Tuscan wine, fruity and elegant, which interests refined connoisseurs all over the world. Alongside Ornellaia and Sassicaia, it belongs to the elite of the "Super Tuscans", those wines made, among other things, from imported French grape varieties, an initiative which, in the early 1960s, inaugurated a new range of great Italian wines. . It is the prestigious Antinori estate, created in 1895, which is at the origin of the Tignanello wine, of which 1970 was the first vintage produced. When four years later (1974) Florentin Antinori markets his wine as well as that of Sassicaia, on a national scale, these fail to charm amateurs. The owner then decided to launch the two references on the international market, where, on the other hand, they met with absolutely dazzling success. Mainly made from the Sangiovese grape, Tignanello completes its blend with a significant proportion of Cabernet and is aged for 14 months in small French oak barrels, the other major “import” of the 1960s.
