Description

Located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart is one of the five Grands Crus of the commune of Morey Saint-Denis. It is the only appellation of Burgundy to never have undergone division since its origin in 1141. Today and since 1932, the almost eight hectares of Clos de Tart and its eponymous domain belong in monopoly to the Mommessin family. . On this vineyard, 50 years old on average, cultivation is carried out using sustainable pest management and yields are limited to 30 hl / ha. As for the aging, it lasts between 18 and 24 months in 100% new oak barrels. During the first half of the 20th century, Clos wines did not find great recognition among amateurs, slightly lacking in richness and concentration. From 1980, significant efforts in terms of quality were noted, in particular for the 1985, 1989 and 1990 vintages, which were very successful. But it was the arrival in 1995 of Sylvain Pitiot as stage manager that truly breathed new life into the production. Author of illustrious works on Burgundy, and in particular of an atlas of the vineyards of this region which is authoritative, he has been able to restore the image of the estate by signing magnificent vintages of intensity, finally at the height of the Grand Cru classification. ! The estate, run according to the principles of sustainable agriculture, has recently taken a new step: the vines are now cultivated organically (not certified). Silky texture, finesse, fullness, structure… there is no shortage of comments to describe this elegant nectar with tasty aromas of cherry, raspberry, liquorice, vanilla or violet, which is enriched with spicy nuances with age. If they open very slowly, the wines of Clos de Tart promise up to 25 years of aging.
