  • History of the trading

The Maxime Crotet trade is very young, since it was founded in 2021 and markets its wines for the first time in 2022. Maxime had initially planned to make a lot of Burgundy, but because of a complicated vintage with low yields in because of the frost, he had to turn to grapes from the South of France. However, 2022 promises to be better, Maxime should produce more Burgundy in the 2022 vintage. In the future, he intends to continue his development in Burgundy, with the ambition to vinify 1ers crus and grands crus for 2023 .

In addition, Maxime Crotet and Arthur Raillard, his friend, have decided to launch in parallel in 2022 "Les Fruits Maudits" their own artisanal distillery of liqueurs and brandies mainly produced with the picking of local fruits and plants. As for example, strawberries, apricots, lemon mint, verbena, … .

Maxime Crotet

  • Presentation of the winemaker

Maxime Crotet is a pure Burgundian who was immersed in the world of wine and gastronomy during his childhood. From an early age, he was interested in this world and more particularly in the different methods of vinification. He graduated with a BAC pro Viticulture-Oenology at Grandchamp high school. Subsequently, he began his training with Frédéric Cossard, winegrower of natural wines in Saint-Romain in Burgundy for almost 10 years. There he learned the management of the vines in organic farming, as well as the methods of natural vinification, with breeding without sulphur.

Convinced of this viticulture and vinification method that respects the environment, the product and the terroir, he decided to launch his own business in 2021 and to vinify his own wines in Beaune.

Maxime Crotet is one of the rising stars of natural Burgundy wines.

  • The management of Maxime Crotet's vines

As said before, Maxime Crotet does not own a vineyard, 100% of his grapes come from the purchase of grapes from different regions of France.

All the grapes purchased come from vines managed organically and/or biodynamically but not certified.

  • The vines of Maxime Crotet

  • Gamay

Maxime Crotet - Bouteille

  • Winemaking method

The grapes are harvested early so as not to add too much alcohol to the wines, they are sorted by hand on the vine, before being harvested manually in small 20kg crates with holes to prevent the berries from settling.

The grapes are then immediately taken up to the Beaune winery in Burgundy in a refrigerated truck in order to best preserve the quality of the bunches before undergoing a light pressing.

The berries are vinified 100% in whole harvest before undergoing a maceration of 4 to 6 days for Grenache and Carignan, 10 to 14 days for the others. Subsequently, the wine is aged in oak barrels for 6 months for the Vins de France du Sud and 10 months for the others. No new barrels are used for the reds in 2021.

Throughout its production cycle, Maxime Crotet wines have received no chemicals, no yeast, no fining, no filtration, or sulfur during fermentation and ageing.

The objective is to let the wine be made, in order to preserve all the flavors and aromas of the terroir and the grape variety, but this method requires Maxime to follow and monitor his different cuvées as closely as possible.

  • A word on wine aging

Maxime Crotet produces natural wines without sulphur, so they are not wines for long aging. We advise to taste these sweet beverages in their youth and in their first 5 years.

However, the trade being very young, we do not yet have enough perspective on the aging of Maxime's wines. Case to follow!

If you are a lover of natural wines, light, round, fruity wines, … with a beautiful richness, do not wait to discover on our site these exceptional wines which will delight the palate of all gourmets.
