Château Smith Haut Lafitte

It was in the 18th century that the Scottish owner, George Smith, added his name and the estate became Smith Haut Lafitte and boosted the reputation of the Gironde wine estate. Following the purchase of the estate by the Bordeaux merchant Louis Eschnauer, the estate experienced a less prosperous period. It is thanks to the efforts of the couple Florence and Daniel Cathiard, former ski champions, reconverted in the viticulture which made of the Château Smith Haut Lafitte the best domain of the Bordeaux wines. They have put the means to do so since they have redesigned the entire estate: creation of new buildings, an underground cellar, a vat room, the vineyard has been restored. Technology is also an important part of the success of Château Smith Haut Lafitte. The success of the Château is not limited to the vineyard, as their daughters and their husbands have launched themselves into vinotherapy, with Caudalie cosmetics and the installation of spas in luxury hotels. This craze is such that the concept is installed in the most chic places.

As for the vineyard, the estate includes 55 hectares dedicated to red wine and 11 hectares for white wine. The grape variety of red wine is mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, but also Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. As for the white wine, it is mainly Sauvignon Blanc, with Sauvignon Gris and Semillon. This Chateau of the Pessac-Léognan appellation is one of the oldest Chateaux of Bordeaux.
