Château de Beaucastel

Château de Beaucastel is one of the most prestigious estates in the Rhône Valley. Its history began in the 16th century with the purchase of the estate by Pierre de Beaucastel. Since 1909, the Perrin family has wonderfully managed 100 of the 130 hectares of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Côtes du Rhône appellations. They were the forerunners of biodynamic agriculture, which was introduced in 1974. They wish to have a respectful agriculture of the vines and the eco-system. They can be proud to be one of the only domains to use the 13 grape varieties of the Châteauneuf-du-pape appellation in the composition of its red wine. After being harvested by hand and carefully selected, the grapes are vinified in traditional vats. Each of the 13 grape varieties, such as Grenache, Mourvèdre, Vaccarès, is put in an individual vat to reveal their character. Only after 15 days, they are assembled and put in oak barrels where it will age for one year. The production of this Rhone wine amounts to about 300,000 bottles per year. There are remarkable vintages such as the one in homage to Jacques Perrin and the white Roussanne Vieilles Vignes since the Perrin family does not only produce red wine, but also very great white wines. Château de Beaucastel produces 5 wines: the Château de Beaucastel Red and White, the Cuvée Hommage à Jeacques Perrin and a Coudoulet Red and White. Today, it faces increased competition from other estates in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation such as Château Rayas, which produces quite exceptional wines.
