Domaine Lucien Muzard's red Santenay “Charmes” is a wine of remarkable elegance, made from a parcel of vines located on the lower slopes of Santenay, near Les Maranges. The vines, over 40 years old, thrive on deep clay-limestone soil, offering an authentic expression typical of this Burgundian terroir.
The work in the vineyard is meticulous: cordon de royat pruning, soil ploughing, disbudding, lifting and leaf removal. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, guaranteeing optimal quality. During vinification, the grapes are never crushed, and around 30% of the harvest is kept whole, preserving the structure and freshness of the fruit. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts, with light punching down to gently extract aromas and tannins.
The wine is then aged for 12 months in Burgundian oak barrels, 15-20% of which are new. This precise ageing gives this Santenay “Charmes” a beautiful harmony of fruit, tannins and subtle notes of well-integrated wood.
On tasting, this wine stands out for its delicate, floral nose, dominated by aromas of rose, accompanied by nuances of ripe red fruit and sweet spices. The palate is silky, supported by a fine, elegant tannic structure. The balance between richness and freshness is ideal, offering a long, flavorful finish.
This Santenay “Charmes” is a perfect match for grilled red meats, roast poultry or mature cheeses. With an ageing potential of 5 years, it will blossom fully while offering immediate pleasure in its youth.
