Description
Domaine Bruno Colin's Santenay Vieilles Vignes is an emblematic cuvée, made from Pinot Noir vines planted in 1959 on the plot known as ‘Les Prarons-Dessus’, a 0.71 hectare parcel located below the famous Clos de Tavannes, along the river Dheune. This terroir, characterised by light, shallow and stony brown limestone soils, gives the wine a unique and authentic expression.
Grown using organic methods, with mechanical tillage and ploughing, the vineyard is harvested by hand, with rigorous sorting on the vine, followed by total destemming. The vatting period lasts a fortnight, with minimal intervention, to preserve the purity of the fruit. The wine is matured for 12 months in 350-litre oak barrels, 15 to 20% of which are new, followed by 4 to 6 months in vats before bottling, bringing complexity and balance to the wine.
On tasting, this Santenay Vieilles Vignes reveals a brilliant red colour. The nose is marked by intense aromas of blackcurrant and raspberry. On the palate, it is remarkably rich and supple, with an airy, well-balanced structure. Notes of fresh fruit are enhanced by hints of spice, adding a lovely complexity. This elegant, expressive wine is a true reflection of its terroir.
This Santenay Vieilles Vignes goes perfectly with roasted or grilled red meats such as entrecote steak, dishes in sauce such as lamb tajine, or mature cheeses such as Époisses. It should be served between 16 and 18°C to fully appreciate its aromas. This wine can be enjoyed now, but has ageing potential until 2032, allowing enthusiasts to savour its evolution over the years.
