Description

Domaine Lucien Muzard's red Pommard “Les Cras Vieilles Vignes” is an exceptional wine, sublimating the prestigious Pommard terroir. Located at the bottom of the hillside, near the Pommard cross on the Volnay side, this 31-acre parcel is planted on deep, stony soil composed of fine clay over limestone. The vines, with an average age of over 80 years, offer incomparable concentration and richness, testifying to their noble heritage.

In the vineyard, work is meticulous and respectful of the environment: single Guyot pruning, soil ploughing, disbudding, lifting and leaf thinning. Harvesting is done entirely by hand to preserve the integrity of the grapes. During vinification, the bunches are never crushed, and around 30% of the grapes are harvested whole to preserve freshness and structure. Alcoholic fermentation, carried out by indigenous yeasts, is accompanied by light punching of the cap for a delicate extraction.

The wine is carefully aged for 12 months in Burgundy barrels, 15% of which are new. This process reveals all the complexity and depth of this Pommard, while respecting its natural balance.

On tasting, “Les Cras Vieilles Vignes” seduces with its bewitching aromas of red and black fruits, enriched by spicy and floral nuances, including a delicate note of violet. On the palate, its silky texture, inherited from century-old vines, combines with concentrated structure and fine tannins. The finish is long, elegant and perfectly balanced, reflecting all the nobility of the Pommard terroir.

This Pommard goes perfectly with grilled red meats, stewed dishes such as beef bourguignon, or mature cheeses. With an ageing potential of 5 years, it can be enjoyed now for its freshness and aromatic complexity, or cellared to develop even greater depth and character.
