Domaine Fourrier's Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru ‘Champeaux’ is an emblematic Burgundy wine, reflecting the excellence of the Gevrey-Chambertin terroir. Nestling on the outskirts of the village of Gevrey, between ‘Les Evocelles’, ‘Les Goulots’ and ‘Les Combes aux Moines’, the ‘Les Champeaux’ parcel faces due south on stony marl-limestone soils. This privileged position gives the wines great tension and remarkable depth.
The vines, over 100 years old, are carefully cultivated to express all the richness of the Pinot Noir grape. After being harvested by hand, the wine is matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, bringing complexity and elegance to the whole. On tasting, the dark ruby colour precedes a powerful, complex nose combining aromas of black fruit, morello cherry, spices and subtle floral notes. On the palate, the attack is frank, revealing a racy structure and remarkable smoothness. With time, this Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru ‘Champeaux’ will reveal all its complexity and elegance, rewarding the patience of lovers of great Burgundy wines.
