Description

The Marsannay “En Leautier” from the Messager Germain family is a new cuvée sourced from a vineyard located at the northern edge of the Marsannay appellation, just a few meters from the vineyards of Fixin. This geographical proximity to one of the iconic appellations of the Côte de Nuits gives the wine a unique identity, at the crossroads of the Marsannay and Fixin styles.

The vineyard sits on a complex terroir composed of two complementary zones. The more limestone-rich areas, abundant in stones and rock fragments, enhance the concentration and freshness of the Pinot Noir. The clay-rich sectors, meanwhile, contribute depth, volume, and beautiful ripeness to the wine. This geological diversity yields a remarkable balance between structure, richness, and expression of the terroir.

Cultivated on 33 ares under a long-term lease, the plot is planted with vines approximately 45 years old. This advanced age promotes deep rooting and naturally limited production, ensuring complexity and aromatic concentration.

The Marsannay “En Leautier” reveals a charming and approachable profile, dominated by ripe red berries, redcurrants, and notes of crisp fruit. The palate is full-bodied, harmonious, and generous, with moderate acidity that highlights the fruit’s ripeness without masking the terroir’s natural freshness. An authentic and elegant cuvée that perfectly illustrates the expertise of the Messager Germain family and the potential of Marsannay’s great terroirs.
