The Côte de Nuits Villages ‘Les Chaillots’ from the Messager-Germain family is a red wine made from 50-year-old Pinot Noir vines located on the ‘Les Chaillots’ plot in Corgoloin. This terroir is distinguished by its stony soil, which ensures excellent drainage. The grapes were harvested by hand on 15 September 2023. The winemaking process, which respects the grapes, includes pre-fermentation maceration at 8°C for 5 days and ageing for 12 months in oak barrels, 10% of which are new, without filtration. This wine offers complex aromas of black fruit and undergrowth, with a full, elegant palate underpinned by a fine tannic structure. Production is limited to 2,000 bottles and 3 magnums.

Description

Famille Messager-Germain, founded by Adèle Germain and Simon Messager, is the fruit of the union of two emblematic Burgundy wine-growing families. Their vineyards extend over the communes of Marsannay-la-Côte, Couchey and Fixin, and are cultivated according to the principles of organic farming, without certification in order to preserve freedom of cultivation.

The ‘Les Chaillots’ parcel is located in Corgoloin, on stony soil that provides excellent drainage. The 50-year-old vines, 100% Pinot Noir, are carefully tended throughout the year. Hand-picking on 15 September 2023 enabled a rigorous selection of grapes. The vinification process, which is entirely destemmed, begins with a pre-fermentation maceration at 8°C for 5 days, followed by a gentle fermentation with little punching down and delicate pumping over to limit oxygenation. Ageing for 12 months in oak barrels, 10% of which are new, brings complexity and finesse to the wine. Racking at the goat and no filtration preserve the integrity of the wine. The Côte de Nuits Villages ‘Les Chaillots’ is characterised by aromas of black fruit and undergrowth, typical of the Côte de Nuits. On the palate, it is full-bodied, fleshy and elegant, with a tannic structure that promises good ageing potential. Production is confidential, with only 2,000 bottles and 3 magnums available.
