Pierre Girardin's ‘La Petite Montagne’ cuvée is a 100% Chardonnay white wine from France, produced from a 0.50-hectare plot planted with mass-selected vines in 1955 at an altitude of 230 metres on stony clay-limestone soil. Vinification is carried out using whole bunches, followed by 12 months in 456-litre barrels (30% new), then 8 months in stainless steel vats. This crystal-clear white wine seduces with its salty freshness, vibrant energy and typically Jura-style reductive nose.

Description

The ‘La Petite Montagne’ cuvée showcases the talent of Pierre Girardin, a young 13th-generation winemaker, who offers a refined and authentic French white wine. Grown on a west-facing plot planted in 1955 using mass selection on stony clay-limestone soil resting on white marl, this Chardonnay expresses the purity of the Jura terroir. The grapes are harvested manually as whole bunches, without additives, to preserve the integrity of the fruit. Vinification takes place in stainless steel vats and 456-litre barrels – 30% of which are new – for 12 months, followed by 8 months in vats to stabilise the ageing process.

The result is a crystalline, lively and salty wine, marked by a beautiful mineral tension. The nose, characterised by a discreet reduction, evokes the authentic terroir of the Jura. On the palate, the lemony freshness is combined with a delicate velvety roundness, supported by an elegant structure. This fundamentally energetic cuvée offers a long, salty finish, inviting you to keep it for up to 8–10 years, while also being immediately enjoyable with a seafood dish or grilled fish.

Produced in limited quantities, ‘La Petite Montagne’ embodies a pure expression of Jura Chardonnay, supported by respectful viticulture and precise vinification. This cuvée is aimed at enthusiasts looking for a mineral white wine with beautiful tension and expressive fruit, revealing the full potential of the Jura's high-altitude terroirs.
