Description

The Morey-Saint-Denis “Clos des Ormes” from Domaine Lécheneaut comes from an iconic location in the heart of the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation, just below the prestigious Grand Cru Clos de la Roche and close to Charmes-Chambertin. This unique plot stands out for its special location: half of it is in the village appellation and half in the Premier Cru appellation, while retaining a remarkable terroir unity.

The estate cultivates an area of around 3.5 hectares here, planted exclusively with Pinot Noir. The average age of the vines, close to 70 years, naturally results in low yields and great aromatic concentration. The grapes are harvested by hand to preserve their quality and integrity, for a very limited annual production of around 1,000 bottles.

Geologically, the upper part of the plot, classified as a Premier Cru, rests on limestone and clay-limestone soils from the Middle Jurassic period, giving the wine structure and depth. Further down the slope, classified as a village appellation, the soils evolve towards Bajocian limestone with entroques and marl, offering greater roundness and suppleness. The equal blend of these two expressions gives rise to a balanced cuvée, combining power and elegance.

On tasting, Clos des Ormes reveals itself with an intense garnet color. The nose opens with deep aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, and cherry, complemented over time by subtle notes of truffle. The palate is structured, full-bodied, and precise, carried by silky tannins and a beautiful length. A great wine from Morey-Saint-Denis, made for aging, which accurately expresses the nobility of its terroir.
