The Pommard 1er Cru “Rugiens” from Domaine Fernand & Laurent Pillot comes from several plots located in Rugiens Haut and Bas, on one of the appellation’s most prestigious terroirs. These iron-rich clay-limestone soils lend the wine power and depth.
The estate cultivates approximately 65 acres, with vines averaging 35 years of age, allowing for beautiful aromatic complexity. This terroir, with its ideal exposure, promotes optimal ripeness of the Pinot Noir.
On the palate, the wine displays an intense color and a nose marked by aromas of cherry, raspberry, and stone fruit, evolving toward spicy notes, licorice, and eucalyptus over time. The palate is dense and structured, supported by tannins that are present yet elegant.
This great wine for aging reaches its full potential between 5 and 15 years, or even longer. It then gains in complexity and silkiness, revealing all the nobility of this iconic Pommard vineyard.
